Geoscan Company in collaboration with the initiative group from St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (ITMO) and the blessing of the Metropolitan of St. Petersburg and Ladoga Varsonofy performed an aerial survey of the St Nicholas Naval Cathedral in Kronshtadt
Imagery were taken automatically from a multirotor UAV Geoscan 401 following a predefined route. For flight planning a special « building fly-by » mode in a ground control station was used . This mode allows automatic flight plan generation based on the height and borders of the building. During several flights were taken more than 750 nadir and oblique images of the Cathedral with the resolution of 0.5-1 cm per pixel.
It was the first time when aerial images of St. Nikolas Naval Cathedral were taken from 80 meter altitude, while the height of the top of the cross is 70.5 m
