Objective

The master plan group of Severstal, PJSC is developing the company's geographic information system (GIS). Information about the site infrastructure is used at all stages of the object's life cycle: design, operation, reconstruction, and liquidation. The GIS includes a desktop and geoportal solution. It is necessary to update the data on the territory and obtain high-precision orthophotomaps for editing vector data on the master plan and analyzing sites for the implementation of investment.

The solution

As part of the project, aerial photography of the territory of the Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant with an area of ​​29.5 sq. km was carried out by using UAVs Geoscan 201 Geodesy and Geoscan Gemini. About 55 000 photos were processed in Agisoft Metashape Professional software. Based on the results of photogrammetric processing, the following materials were created in three coordinate systems (WGS-84, MCK-35 and MCK CherMK):

  • Orthophotos in GeoTIFF format with resolution 5 cm/pix and MSE 10 cm;
  • DEM in GeoTIFF format;
  • 3D model of the area in PLY, TLS formats;
  • Point cloud in LAS format.

Results

As a result of the work, the information on the general plan of the Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant was updated, orthophotos were uploaded to the desktop GIS and to the Geoportal of CherMK, where users actively interact with the results of aerial photography in the development of project documentation, in preparation for construction and installation work, in the construction of a route for movement around the plant, when creating thematic maps, for analyzing the situation and making management decisions. The geoportal combines vector data of the general plan and orthophotos, which allows visually determining the location of underground communications and structures on the ground. The dense point cloud and textured 3D model are used for detailed analysis of the situation and measurement work without going to the site.
