Agisoft PhotoScan

Capabilities of PhotoScan

Agisoft PhotoScan is a program for photogrammetric processing of digital images, creating georeferenced 3D models, orthophotos and DEM.

Obtained data is suitable for use in GIS applications, creating visual effects, as well as for measuring objects.

How Agisoft PhotoScan works

There are four main steps:

Determination of camera position

Determination of camera position

Determination of camera position

After uploading photos to PhotoScan, the program automatically determines the camera's position and orientation for each frame and builds a sparse point cloud.

1

Building a point cloud

Building a point cloud

In the second stage, PhotoScan builds dense point clouds using the calculated camera positions. A dense point clouds can be cut/excluded and classified.

2

Building a polygonal model

Building a polygonal model

Building a polygonal model

a polygonal model is reconstructed over a dense cloud of points. There are two methods of reconstruction: height field — for planar surfaces, such as a terrain or relief and Arbitrary — for any types of surfaces. The resulting model can be edited directly in PhotoScan or exported.

3

Texturing

Texturing

Texturing

In order to improve the quality of textures in PhotoScan there is an automatic photo evaluation function. Images with an estimate of less than 0.5 are recommended to be excluded from texture generation, that will lead to an improvement in the visualization quality of the resulting model.

RAM

In most cases the maximum project size that can be processed is limited by the amount of RAM available. Therefore it is important to select the platform allowing to install required amount of RAM.

CPU

Complex geometry reconstruction algorithms need a lot of computational resources for processing. A high speed multi core CPU (3GHz+) is recommended.

GPU

Agisoft PhotoScan supports GPU acceleration for image matching and dense cloud generation steps, so high-end OpenCL or CUDA-compatible graphics card can speed up the processing.

Licensing Options

Stand-alone license:

Stand-Alone license is a rehostable node-locked license, i.e. one license allows to activate the program at one machine only, however, the license can be transferred to a different computer if needed. Stand-Alone license allows to use PhotoScan software in all kinds of paid and unpaid projects. The license is available both to individuals and legal entities, such as companies, firms, museums, reseach institutions, governmental institutions, etc.

Floating License:

Floating license allows to install the program on as many computers as desired and run it, at any one time, on as many systems as the number of licenses purchased indicates. One computing machine shall be designated as the “license server”; the license server utility installed on it will manage license distribution across the network of computers where the program has been installed. Floating license is available for Agisoft PhotoScan Professional Edition only.

Educational license:

Educational licenses (rehostable node-locked) and Educational Floating licenses are available exclusively to accredited educational institutions, their employees and students of such institutions. Only officially accredited educational institutions are eligible to obtain Agisoft PhotoScan educational licenses. This includes: universities, colleges, junior colleges, scientific and technical schools, vocational schools, and correspondence schools. Educational or Educational Floating licenses can also be purchased by students and officially employed teaching and research staff of officially accredited educational institutions. Any educational license prohibits all commercial uses of the software. Educational / Educational Floating and Stand-Alone / Floating licenses differ legally but are technically identical.

Full Function Demo Mode:

You can try Agisoft PhotoScan software either in demo mode (export and save functions are blocked) or test it in full function mode with 30-day trial license for free.
